Ply Gem Window Installation: The Pompano Beach Owner’s Guide

Ply Gem window installation in Pompano Beach typically runs $220 to $480 per window for a standard replacement, and we stock the common Ply Gem hardware and glass components on our trucks. Same-day service is available for most single-window failures. The way most owners discover the problem is unglamorous: a sash that won’t stay up, a lock that spins without catching, or a seal that’s fogged between the glass and now holds a permanent haze of salt air. Dale Kessler grew up in the Pompano Beach Highlands, and he’ll tell you the same thing he tells every customer: if the pane is not true, the job is not done.

We’re an independent installer and repair shop. We are not affiliated with Ply Gem, but we’ve worked on their product lines across Broward County for the better part of two decades, and we know which parts fail first and which ones hold up.

Which Ply Gem Models This Applies To

Ply Gem builds windows under several series names, and the parts are not always interchangeable between them. The main lines we see in Pompano Beach homes are the Ply Gem Pro Series, the 2000 Series, and the Mira Series. The Pro Series is the most common in Florida, and the 2000 Series shows up in older houses where windows were replaced once before, sometimes twenty-plus years ago. The Mira is the budget-sensitive line, and it’s the one where we most often see hardware wear out before the glass does.

The fastest way to identify what you have is the white sticker on the inside edge of the sash, visible when you tilt or lift the sash out. It lists the manufacturer code and often the series. If the sticker is gone, take a photo of the sash corner and the lock mechanism, open the sash, and look for any etched numbers on the glass spacer or frame extrusion. We can match most Ply Gem parts from those three things. On the OEM versus aftermarket question: Ply Gem’s factory hardware is solid, but some of the older locking mechanisms weren’t built for Pompano Beach’s salt air, and a good aftermarket equivalent in stainless or marine-grade alloy will outlast the original. We stock both, and we’ll tell you which one makes sense for your window and your block without pushing the pricier option if you don’t need it.

Signs Your Ply Gem Window Installation Is Failing

  • The sash drops or won’t stay open. The block-and-tackle balancers or constant-force coils inside the frame have worn out. This is the most common Ply Gem failure we see in Pompano Beach, and it’s a straightforward parts replacement, not a whole-window job.
  • The lock spins but never catches. The cam or keeper is worn or misaligned. Ply Gem locks on the 2000 Series are particularly prone to this after years of humidity swelling the sash slightly each summer.
  • Fog or haze between the glass panes. The insulating glass unit seal has failed. Once that happens, the argon or krypton fill leaks out and moisture gets in. No amount of cleaning fixes it. The glass unit needs replacing, but the frame usually stays.
  • You feel a draft even when the window is closed and locked. The weatherstripping has compressed or crumbled, or the sash has settled out of square. In Pompano Beach, where we run air conditioning roughly nine months of the year, this shows up on the electric bill before it shows up on your skin.
  • The sash is hard to open, or binds halfway. The pivot pins or the shoe in the side channel have worn, or the frame itself has shifted. Houses on sandy soil near Pompano Beach shift more than owners expect, and a slightly racked frame turns a minor hardware fix into a bigger alignment job if it’s ignored.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A straightforward Ply Gem window installation or parts replacement in Pompano Beach runs between $220 and $480 per window when we’re swapping hardware, balancers, locks, or a single insulating glass unit. A full sash replacement lands higher, typically $380 to $700 depending on the glass package and series. If you’re looking at multiple windows, the per-window number drops because the truck is already rolling, the setup is already done, and we’re not charging you twice for the trip.

Job Type Typical Installed Range (Pompano Beach)
Balance/coil replacement (single window) $220 - $340
Lock and keeper replacement $190 - $290
Insulating glass unit replacement (fogged seal) $300 - $480
Full sash replacement $380 - $700
Weatherstripping and re-alignment $180 - $320

Every quote is a written line item, parts and labor separated, before any work starts. No change orders on a standard replacement. The workmanship is covered by our Done Right Promise, and if your Ply Gem product still carries manufacturer warranty, we register your claim in writing before the truck leaves the driveway. If it isn’t in writing, it isn’t a warranty.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself. Confirm the lock plate screws haven’t rattled loose. Wipe the track clean and look for an obvious obstruction. Check whether the sash sits level in the frame or is racked to one side. Those observations help us work faster when you call, and they’re good homeowner practice.

What we don’t recommend is trying to source Ply Gem hardware blind and install it yourself. Most of the balancers on these windows are under spring tension, and the coil assemblies can release hard if they’re not blocked correctly. More importantly, the parts catalogs list compatibility codes that don’t always match what’s stamped on the frame from certain production years, and we see a lot of owners who bought the wrong shoe or the wrong pivot pin online and spent more trying to make it work than a service call would have cost. If the window is fogged, it’s a sealed glass unit job, not a weekend fix. Call us at (863) 591-8673 and we’ll give you a straight answer on what you’re looking at before anyone gets on a ladder.

What Neighbors Say About TruePane Windows & Doors

★★★★

"Sliding door had been dragging for years. They quoted a repair first, said the track was shot, then priced the replacement both ways on paper. No pressure either direction. Door glides with one finger now."

CCarol M.
★★★★

"Energy bill was the reason we called. They did not oversell - said the two worst walls of windows would do most of the work and we could stop there. Did those eight with the Low-E glass. August electric bill tells the story."

HHarold W.
★★★★★

"Impact windows on the whole house. They handled the permit, the inspection, and gave me a folder with every approval number for the insurance company. My windstorm premium dropped enough to notice."

BBill T.
★★★★★

"Whole-house window replacement at 71 years old is not something you want to do twice. Dale walked the house himself for the quote. Crew was the same three men all four days, and the foreman knew every window by room."

PPat and Ray L.
★★★★

"Two entry doors. Showed up when they said, second day was a half day like they said, and the painter they recommended confirmed the frames were dead plumb. The financing was explained in actual dollars, not a brochure."

JJanet R.
★★★★★

"Our bay window had rotted at the sill and two other outfits wanted to talk us into a flat picture window instead. TruePane rebuilt the opening and matched the original look. Neighbors have knocked on the door about it."

GGene A.
★★★★★

"French doors to the patio, custom size because this house was built in 1961 and nothing is standard. Measured twice, three weeks to fabricate like they warned, and the install day they laid runners over my floors without being asked."

MMarie S.
★★★★★

"A casement crank had stripped and the sash was swollen shut. The technician, Ray, fixed the crank on the spot and only then talked about replacement for the three windows that were genuinely done. That is why the whole street uses them now."
